Installation and Maintenance Tips
-
Position Near the Bottom Corner:
Install the filter vertically and close to a tank corner to maximize circulation and reduce dead spots. -
Fully Submerge the Unit:
Ensure the filter is entirely underwater to avoid airlocks and maintain proper suction. -
Secure with Suction Cups:
Use the included suction cups on a clean glass surface. If they loosen over time, soak them in hot water for a better grip. -
Add Filter Media for Better Results:
While the unit usually comes with a basic sponge, you can enhance filtration by:-
Adding activated carbon for odor and discoloration control.
-
Inserting ceramic rings or bio balls to promote beneficial bacteria growth.
-
Layering fine filter floss for crystal-clear water.
-
-
Adjust Flow Direction:
If the output nozzle is rotatable or directional, angle it toward the surface to increase aeration and prevent surface scum buildup. -
Clean Every 2–4 Weeks:
-
Rinse the sponge and internal parts using old tank water (not tap water) to preserve beneficial bacteria.
-
Inspect the impeller and remove any debris or buildup that could reduce flow.
-
-
Don’t Over-Clean:
Avoid over-cleaning or replacing all filter media at once—this can crash your beneficial bacteria colony and harm water quality
