Bioplastics or biopellets are used to remove nitrates from your salt water tank. Nitrates are the result of the breakdown of fish food and the resulting waste. These bioplastics release organic food which promotes the development of bacteria. This bacteria then removes the nitrates and phosphate as well as acting as a food source for filter-feeding invertebrates.
