Fresh Water Dip

A freshwater dip is a method of hyposalinity that can be used to reduce all types of protozoa, flukes, and lice that are parasitic on saltwater fishes. The process involves taking a saltwater fish out of saltwater and placing it in freshwater for a short duration of time. The fish should be closely watched during treatment for signs of extreme stress such as laying on the bottom of the treatment container and gilling rapidly. To prevent unnecessary shock and stress, try to match the pH and temperature of the freshwater to that of the aquarium water from the fish’s saltwater aquarium.
